Remedial work with underachieving children

Abstract

There is an upsurge of interest at the present time in the “slum schools”—the schools situated in the deprived areas of our larger cities. Much of this interest has been generated by Dr. James B. Conant's book, Slums and Suburbs. 1 The problems in and around these schools a re increasing as the populations of these areas increase. Because of the unique and strategic position of the schools in these areas, people are calling for a closer look at the quality of education being offered to the children from these culturally deprived areas.
