The purpose of the research is to investigate the current level of the cadets’ self-educational competence formedness in the process of their training in a higher educational institution with specific training environment. The research involved 167 fourth (graduate) year cadets of the National Academy of Internal Affairs (Kyiv). Research methods: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature, documents and results of educational activities, observations, questionnaires, method of expert assessment, methods of mathematical statistics. The level of the cadets’ self-educational competence formedness was assessed according to four components such as motivational-personal, cognitive-informational, operational-activity and reflexive-volitional. It was found that the cadets’ self-educational competence is an integral part of professional competence and at the same time an indicator of the success of their professional and personal development. It was found that the level of most of the studied indicators of the cadets according to the distinguished components is low. This indicates the need to substantiate and implement pedagogical conditions for the formation of self-educational competence of the cadets i. e. future law enforcement officers in the process of their training in higher educational institutions with specific training environment, as an important prerequisite for effective performance of their professional tasks.
