CUSP CATASTROPHE MODEL OF CLIMATE CHANGE – COMPANION TO BASIC GLOBAL WARMING

Author:

Jacobsen Joseph J.

Abstract

This article examines climate change as an interdisciplinary exposition of economic dynamics, human population dynamics, thermodynamics and nonlinear dynamics. The substance of the writing is about the application of the cusp catastrophe model as characterized by Thom (1975) to climate change. The cusp model under consideration has three global variables: 1) human population, 2) CO2 emissions and 3) temperature. The relationship at different intersections of the cusp catastrophe model are examined in order to portray a reasonable representation of climate transition. While the article is theoretical in nature and it borrows from the physical sciences to explain sudden change.
