Abstract
A manipulatively simple and rapid procedure for the synthesis of diacetals from 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1, 3-propanediol with aldehydes and ketones in refluxing benzene or toluene using the ZrO2 /S2O82- solid superacid as catalyst in 80–98% yields has been described.
