Abstract

Abstract Session 12 provides psychoeducation on slips, relapses, relapse prevention, and long-term maintenance of recovery from alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder. The therapist teaches women how to identify and respond to warning signs of a slip or relapse to alcohol or drug use, and how to handle slips or relapses if they do occur. Clients are helped to develop a relapse contract so they have a plan for relapse prevention and management of slips or relapses. As in every session, women-relevant vignettes and sample worksheets are provided. As in every session, prior skills are carried forward, each client’s abstinence plan is monitored, routine interventions are delivered, and group support is encouraged.
