Implementing Evidence-Based Principles of Therapeutic Change

Abstract

This introductory chapter describes the goals of the book and its structure. It presents the rationale for developing a new list of empirically based principles of change, as well as for inviting expert clinicians to illustrate how such principles can be implemented in their day-to-day practice. The chapter also describes how these clinicians were selected and the writing guidelines that they followed in demonstrating their personal integration of empirical findings and clinical work. It further highlights how the collaboration between researchers and practitioners that is fostered in this book aims to go beyond the building of a “bridge” between science and practice by creating, instead, a new and unified landscape of knowledge and action.
