Abstract
A commitment to “transformative professionalism” asks that palliative social workers have the courage to seek excellence in their delivery of care, which is enhanced when one regularly and intentfully reflects upon the impact one is having and the legacy one is creating. Applying the principles of palliative care lays a foundation for the transformation of healthcare. One’s unique integration of leadership, advocacy, research, policy, education, collaboration, resilience, and clinical skills synergistically increases one’s effectiveness as an agent of change. Examples of social work leadership are provided as well as a transformative professionalism toolkit to offer palliative social workers inspiration and guidance as they craft their careers and build their legacy with passion and purpose.
