Abstract

Abstract This chapter of the book focuses on proctology and the management of anorectal disorders. The disorders discussed range from common conditions such as haemorrhoids, fissures, and anorectal sepsis, to less common presentations including solitary rectal ulcer syndrome and anal stenosis. Sections are also given on obstructed defecation, chronic anorectal pain, fistula in ano, and pruritis ani. For ease of reference each disorder is set out in a similar way, starting with presentation or aetiology, moving on to classification and/or clinical features, ending with management or treatment. The wide spectrum of surgical approaches to conditions like rectal prolapse, haemorrhoidal disease, and pilonidal sinus are covered comprehensively, with novel treatment options also included in this revised edition.
