What to Expect with a Death at Home

Abstract

Abstract ‘What to Expect with Death at Home’ examines the process of dying at home and key considerations for patients, relatives, and health professionals. It reviews recent trends in the number of patients dying at home, views on home as a preferred place of death and barriers and facilitators to achieving this. It discusses care and support for patients and relatives; both before and after death and from a range of individuals and services, including healthcare professionals and those working in the third sector. The provision of anticipatory medications is discussed, including recent advances in carer administration of subcutaneous medications in the community. The lived experiences of relatives of patients who have died at home are considered.
