Chapter 12 describes defects likely to cause disabling impairment of vision, defines
the terms used to describe the common disorders such as squint, refractive error, and
amblyopia, reviews the tests and procedures used for assessing vision in pre-school and
school-age children, sets out the arguments for screening, gives a brief account of
colour vision defects and vision problems associated with ‘dyslexia’, and makes
recommendations for screening and early detection.
