Abstract
Abstract
Patients and their families react to symptoms. New or unexpected symptoms are most often harbingers of bad news. As such, there is urgency to thoroughly assess by history taking and examination. From there, having considered prognosis before and as a result of this new presentation, there may be a need for judicious use of investigations while commencing management of the symptom. This chapter of the book outlines the most frequently encountered acute symptoms and directs clinicians to more detailed underlying causes in the subsequent chapters of the book.
