Abstract

Abstract This chapter covers the process of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) screening trial. The FDA has provided approval for SCS as a tool for managing chronic and intractable pain. As the SCS is considered an invasive procedure, written informed consent of the patient is required. Patients are also required to undergo an evaluation of their detailed history and physical examination before committing to the SCS treatment. People who failed to respond with initial medication and treatment should be subjected to SCS, as further medication could lead to greater disability and side effects. Additionally, the pain diagnosis of a patient determines the success rate of the SCS treatment.
