Retrieval systems

Abstract

Retrieval systems have been developed to manage the complex clinical and governance environment that retrieval poses. Such systems are required to deal with the reality that population location and local health services rarely match the complex health care needs of patients. Complex surgical, medical or trauma care often requires movement to a larger centre and this transport must be managed professionally to achieve safe transfer that does not increase morbidity or mortality. The retrieval environment is complex and requires expert systems, across large areas, which involve many stakeholders and interdisciplinary groups.
