Results obtained with five commercial sources of quantitative immunoglobulin plates for IgG, IgA, and IgM varied widely. Preliminary evidence suggests that the international reference serum supplied by the National Institute of Health should be used to standardize commercial reference sera, because the labeled values for immunoglobulins on such sera are of questionable reliability.
