Origins of Biodiversity begins by asking two connected questions: What is macroevolution? And, what is macroecology? It looks at the origins of evolution and asks whether evolution necessarily makes things ‘bigger and better’, or not. It considers the issue of the explosion of evolution and the case of the dinosaurs, and asks whether sexual reproduction is good for survival. It also poses the question of why most species are so small. A question not often asked also relates to the existence of so many kinds of beetles. What is the purpose of that? Finally, it looks to the future of biodiversity.
