Measles initially misdiagnosed as an arboviral disease in a returning traveler

Abstract

Vaccine-preventable diseases should be considered in returning travellers presenting with a rash. A patient with measles, probably acquired during an evacuation flight from Afghanistan to the USA, was diagnosed on return from Brazil. Misdiagnosis of highly contagious viral infections such as measles may have significant public health repercussions.
