Photophysical properties of 1-Aza-2-boraacenaphthene synthesized by a reduction of base-stabilized aminodibromoborane

Abstract

Abstract Among heteroaromatics, the chemistry of boron/nitrogen-incorporated (BN)-heteroaromatic compounds is relatively old, but it is not well explored. Here, we report the synthesized new member of BN-heteroaromatics, 1-aza-2-boraacenaphthene 4. Structural characterization of 4 by using x-ray crystallography indicated the strong interaction between B and O atoms through the pπ-pπ interaction. Formation of 4 can be explained by involving a radical intermediate according to our previous report. The absorption and emission properties of 4 were compared with reference compounds to reveal the character of oxygen-substituted 1-aza-2-boraacenaphthene. Density functional theory calculations also support the similarity between 4 and the parent compound.
