In the Introduction to Volume 10 (Therapeutic Consultations in Child Psychiatry), Winnicott’s collection of child and adolescent consultations in child psychiatry, prepared before his death, is discussed. The consultations represent different ways of communicating about integrative and maturational processes, transitional objects and transitional phenomena, the location of cultural experience, environmental provision, mirroring, object usage and object finding, identifications and, above all, creativity and playing. Reference is made to child psychiatry, to the therapeutic consultation, to the ‘Squiggle Game’, and to the three distinct sections of the collection and their significance.
