Abstract
Abstract
An instrument has been developed for surveying neutron environments. It contains two thermal neutron detecting elements which consist of touch proof surface barrier detectors in contact with thin layers of 6LiF. One detector is located at the centre of a 76 mm (3") diameter Polythene sphere. The readings of the two detectors give information on the thermal and intermediate components of the ambient dose equivalent, and can be combined to mirror the response of various albedo dosemeters. The instrument can also be used to scale pulses from a wide energy range neutron survey instrument, and hence be used to assess the proportion of the neutron dose equivalent detected by albedo dosimetry systems.
