Abstract

Abstract This chapter explores how youth participatory action research can be used by school counselors to form authentic partnerships with the community. The authors explore how school counselors can implement community-based participatory action research (CBPR) to address issues of access and equity in school systems. To this end, they consider the school counselor’s role in engaging with community and the promise of CBPR as a tool for centering community expertise, intergenerational learning, youth mental health, and youth sociopolitical development. Next, they share a case of CBPR to highlight how such partnerships look in practice. The authors then end their chapter with recommendations on how the school counselor can implement CBPR in their schools.
