Abstract
Abstract
This chapter raises the central question, which guides the work and reappears throughout the book: What are some strategies for increasing youth dialogues on race and ethnicity in metropolitan areas, which are becoming both more segregated and more diverse? It examines the rationale for this question, its underlying assumptions, its knowledge base, and its contribution to the field. The book features phenomena in a specific metropolitan area, but deal with them in terms of their larger significance. Indeed, the book is about more than a place, but raises questions about racial segregation, social diversity, young people and adult allies as change agents, and the roles of universities and their community partners in the struggle for social justice.
