Abstract

AbstractThe concluding chapter summarizes the rich data presented. By reporting firsthand experiences of Black women, especially Black women who have run for public office, the book has advanced our understanding of candidate emergence, demonstrated how political socialization and community influence and engender ambition, and shown the extent to which those communities provide resources for Black women to run and to win public political office. Despite their impressive levels of participation, Black women still face many challenges in implementing their own and their community’s policy preferences. As well as enumerating these, this chapter also raises questions that still need to be addressed about Black women seeking office.
