Abstract

Abstract The concluding chapter depicts the ramifications of the complete mosaic of iron deficiency. Inadequate iron is a global health crisis for women but does not affect all women equally. This is a consequence not of our evolved bodies but of social inequality. Poverty, gender, and race cause iron deficiency, and therefore the solution to iron deficiency must be social. Rather than rely on the simple solution, iron supplementation, radical social change is needed to ensure women’s well-being. This chapter concludes with thoughts on how anthropological perspectives, both evolutionary and social, are critical in making meaningful, real-world changes in women’s iron nutrition.
