Abstract

Abstract This chapter discusses the implications of the decades of research on pay communication and transparency for the workplace and for public policy. Specifically, it focuses on practical next steps that have the highest probability of being accepted by both labor and management. Also discussed are policy reforms that policymakers might consider. Implications for future research into pay communication are examined next, with a focus on identifying issues and questions that remain unresolved, as well as on the challenges scholars face when trying to address them. This chapter concludes with a discussion of implications for practice: steps that practitioners might want to consider if they are interested in enhancing their employees’ pay knowledge.
