Conclusion

Abstract

AbstractThe conclusion summarizes the argument of the book. The chapter reviews how the epistemological frameworks of social epistemology help us untangle several thorny problems of internet epistemology. Summarizing the socially situated approach to internet epistemology pursued in this book, the chapter recaps the ways in which race, gender, sexuality, colonialism, and capitalism shape online knowledge production. Recognizing the social situatedness of online knowledge (and ignorance) is crucial for answering the normative question: who should we be online? Reflecting on the research ethics methodology adopted in the book and articulated in the Appendix, the conclusion argues that philosophers need to take into account their own positionality and power as they study the internet.
