Abstract
The question i am addressing in this essay does not have to do with Beckett’s extensive and deeply engaged reading of philosophy. And only by indirection does it have to do with the multitude of philosophical issues that are at stake in his work and that were clearly inflected by his reading. This is ground that has been covered so extensively and so ably by others that I have little chance of improving on their insights.
