Abstract
Abstract
This chapter on the foundations of Pharaonic stone buildings, although primarily descriptive, is included because of the foundation’s close relationship to the more technical aspects of construction. By providing a flat and level building ground, foundations prevent sagging of walls on unstable ground. Although Engelbach has asserted that Egyptian architects were poor layers of foundation, in many cases quite efficient foundations were constructed.
