Conclusion

Abstract

Abstract The conclusion offers a personal reflection upon how the methodology the author has established for intersecting acoustic ecology with film and media has influenced his approach to thinking about the spaces he occupies outside the screening room walls. Having examined the four key dimensions of acoustic ecology as established by the World Soundscape Project, and demonstrated the value of intersecting these with the study of film sound, the author explains how the revelations about the myth of vanishing mediation that he takes away from all the films examined in this book have provided a tool kit for living more consciously with respect to the complexities of the land, which, in turn, have informed his approach to creative practice. As a concrete illustration, the author explains how some of his own biographical details have informed two of his artistic projects that both explicitly frame an approach to audiovisual design through the method of acoustic profiling used as an analytical tool throughout this book, now a tool for critically examining his own listener positionality as a settler on Indigenous lands.
