Abstract

Abstract Chapter 9—“Gardens and Value”—begins with the question: do gardens have only positive value? After discussing this topic and examining arguments for and against, it considers whether ethical considerations are relevant to gardens. Following this, it discusses a range of different ethical issues relevant to gardens, including issues of colonization, ownership, guerilla gardening, the dominion and deception problems, and problems connected to gardens and resource use. The chapter concludes with consideration of the question: can the value of one garden be compared with that of another? It examines arguments for and against.
