Abstract

AbstractUnderstanding the impact of employment, wage, and occupation discrimination on income loss and the poverty of discriminated groups such as scheduled castes is dealt in this chapter. A majority of the studies on labour market discrimination have nearly bypassed the impact of employment, wage, and occupation discrimination on the income and poverty of discriminated groups such as scheduled castes. The present chapter estimates the income loss and subsequently the incidence of poverty of the discriminated groups due to discrimination in employment and wages by using the method developed for this purpose. The chapter also addresses the regional variation of the impact of discrimination on poverty.
