Abstract

AbstractThe many tasks of decolonization required for reporting borderlands starts with simple actions of asking what is next. Drawing on Fanon’s thesis for a strengthened humanism, in part using the tools of the colonizers against them, this chapter argues that in a shared world of unequal risks, to see the human without losing sight of the politics is the path to a shared global polity. This then brings us back to Emmanuel Levinas. This concluding chapter looks at the literature around Levinas’s philosophy as applied to professional contexts and draws lessons from past mistakes. It argues that foreign correspondence can work toward a global polity by focusing on the building block of the profession and cultivating a philosophically informed understanding of the face-to-face interview.
