Conclusions and Extensions

Abstract

AbstractThis chapter offers a brief conclusion of previous chapters. It then proceeds to show how key aspects of the previous chapters are challenged and extended by digital comics. This very common area of comics creation operates with many similar conventions that pay homage to print comics, but expand the multimodal possibilities for expression and readerly interaction with the text. This chapter briefly explores a range of these options to illustrate how the multimodal cognitive poetics developed in previous chapters can extend to analyses of more dynamical forms in digital comics. Extending the cognitive approach to the complexity of digital comics is a crucial next step in developing a completely dynamical multimodal cognitive poetics of comics that can only be gestured to here.
