An Organic Approach to Teaching Sight-Reading in the Choral Rehearsal

Abstract

Abstract Finding ways to develop the ability to sight-read should be one of the choral director's primary goals. We are convinced that teaching sight-reading should be an organic process; it is also multi-dimensional; it needs to be approached sequentially and thoughtfully. The goal of this chapter is to: •   Identify the necessary skills that support effective sight-reading. •   Provide an overview of how to develop these skills during the choral rehearsal.
