Abstract

Abstract This chapter explains the contributions of this book to the larger conversation about knowledge, misinformation, and citizen competence, arguing that public appetite for information about existing policy is larger than commonly believed and that scholars of misinformation should pay more attention to measuring and assessing downstream effects of misperceptions on attitudes. It also considers some of the book’s limitations, including questions it leaves unanswered. Finally, it offers practical suggestions for and real-world example of how both journalists and academics might build on these findings to begin to dismantle the invented state.
