How to Bridge the Great Chasm

Abstract

Abstract What are the practicalities of going global? What are the mechanics? What are the inherent risks? This chapter discusses (1) preconditions that must be met before an institution can successfully go global, (2) collaborative arrangements that can facilitate the endeavor, (3) the pitfalls of some of these arrangements, and (4) how they can be managed through quality controls. The chapter also discusses ways to finance the venture, the outsourcing of operational tasks, and the delivery of higher education services online. It offers “nuts-and-bolts” advice on how to bridge the gap between the abundance of U.S. higher education talent and the immense foreign demand for it.
