Abstract
This chapter analyzes repetition in Sūrat al-Qamar, then compares it with Sūrat al-Shu‘arā’. By examining repetition to find literary patterns, this chapter unearths underlying themes in Sūrat al-Qamar. The main theme is the relationship between the audience and the Qur’ān, developed through a dynamic style and explicated through an exploration of people claiming something is ordinary or the same old thing, and disbelieving. This is contrasted with the idea that God is the one to decide what is or is not ordinary, and God can make the ordinary into the extraordinary. This is in fact all about God’s power versus human weakness. And, finally, the Qur’ān is a bridge between God and humans, which empowers and pushes the audience to action. While the refrain instills fear, it also pushes action through the belief that the Qur’ān gives salvation and stability and connects one with God.
