Abstract
Abstract
Gastropods (snails and slugs) constitute by far the largest and most diverse class of Mollusca, with an estimated 40 000 marine, 3000 freshwater and 24 000 terrestrial species (Solem 1974). They are characterized by a distinct head with eyes and tentacles, and a usually coiled shell. Slugs are snails in which the shell is lost or reduced to a remnant.
