Abstract

Abstract This chapter reviews and brings together the findings of the previous chapters, arguing that they establish inferential expressivism as a new semantic paradigm. Special attention is paid to the distinctive pragmatist methodology of inferential expressivism and what sets it apart from referentialist approaches in semantics. The chapter goes on to outline a number of directions for future work. These include specifying the relation between conditionals and probability within the inferential expressivist framework, providing inferential expressivist accounts of phenomenological self-reports and predicates of personal taste, explaining how to understand compositionality from the perspective adopted in the book, and determining the exact expressive power afforded by the formal systems developed in the book.
