Abstract
Abstract
In this chapter, the authors examine the policymaking process, types of policies, and their functions. This discussion provides the context to discuss the roles for social workers in policy practice. Social work professionals must know how laws are imagined and drafted and the stages of policy development in order to consider the pressure points that make policy change occur or draw attention to social problems. Social workers who enter forensic practice are uniquely positioned to know essential policy issues that impact individuals and families in the community. Therefore, we consider policy practice as an important intervention in social work practice.
