Abstract

Abstract Despite the growing interest in social entrepreneurship in social work, the concept has not been examined from the perspective of majority and minority groups in multicultural societies. This study presents empirical evidence concerning factors that explain the entrepreneurial intention of social workers based on data from an extensive survey of social workers from the Jewish majority and the Arab minority in Israel. The findings revealed high levels of entrepreneurial intention amongst all the social workers, although it is lower amongst those from the minority group. Social workers from the majority group reported higher levels of openness to experience in the context of entrepreneurial intention and in extraversion compared to the minority group. Training for social entrepreneurship was identified as a key factor driving entrepreneurial intention.
