Abstract

Abstract Bullying occurs on children’s playgrounds and even inside the school building; however, what about the music ensemble classroom? Music education researchers report that youth enrolled in a music ensemble demonstrate prosocial behaviors that may dampen bullying victimization experiences. The purpose of this chapter is to present and discuss the effects of peer victimization and psychological safety as an approach to address matters of music classroom inclusivity. This research and the investigations outlined within this chapter indicate that youths selecting to participate in a music ensemble, as an example of their resilience and agency, may be a factor that buffers the effects of bullying traumatic events.
