Abstract
In this chapter the meaning of education, music education, and music teacher education, is approached under the focus of its contribution toward a democratic, and more just society. Drawing on the writings of Gert Biesta regarding education and arts education, a proposal is made to bring about significant changes in music teacher education toward a project-based curriculum that includes the construction of objects of experience, and moral responsibility and care. The central role of research is considered according to the agenda outlined by David E. Myers, and within a context of societal relevance. An appeal is made to music educators to engage actively in the process of overcoming educational inequalities.
