This chapter provides a narrative account of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 from the perspective of a civil society activist directly involved in the process. It maps the consultation and development process undertaken to create Resolution 1325 and highlights some of the challenges associated with ensuring that the resolution incorporated the needs and experiences of a diverse range of women. This chapter observes that despite all the difficulties associated with the development and implementation of Resolution 1325, the underlying principles of inclusivity in war and peace, of valuing civil society, cannot be rescinded or erased. Finally, it concludes that at its best, Resolution 1325 still has transformative capacities, but only if those who adopt and utilize it value that quality.
