Abstract

One of the biggest environmental issues facing Indian cities is the handling of municipal solid trash. Residents are put in danger when municipal solid waste (MSW) is not managed properly. Numerous studies show that around 90% of MSW is disposed of in an improper manner in landfills and open dumps, endangering the environment and human health. The present paper offers an evaluation of Salem City’s current state of municipal solid waste management. The amount and make-up of MSW differ from location to location, however they generally correlate with the average level of living Field studies were conducted for disposal site characterization, quantification, and physicochemical composition analysis. Research conducted in these areas has shown that the current methods for controlling the MSW have several flaws. These flaws mostly relate to a lack of personnel, funds, tools, and equipment needed to complete the many MSWM tasks in an efficient manner. Several MSW treatment technologies are assessed critically, including their benefits and drawbacks. The report ends with a few insightful recommendations that might help motivate the relevant authorities and experts to continue improving the current system.
