Abstract

The sustainability of socio-economic development of the region is largely determined by the rational use of natural resource potential of the territory. Violations of the natural course of processes occurring in natural complexes, caused by the deterioration of the environmental situation, make geo-ecological research the most urgent and priority direction of regional and sectoral projects in the field of sustainable development. The development of regional sustainability indicators should be based on a comprehensive integral geo-ecological assessment of urbanized territories, taking into account the features and changes in natural and socio-economic factors. The purpose of this study is to develop, justify and validate indicators for assessing the sustainable development of the Kaluga region. The object of the study is the sustainability of development of the system “nature-population-economy” in the Kaluga Oblast. The subject of the study is the change of life-supporting resources of geospheric envelopes under the influence of anthropogenic factors, their protection, rational use and control; the state of public health and the quality of the social sphere; the scale and pace of economic growth to ensure sustainable development of the Kaluga Oblast. The article pays attention to the key issues related to the concepts of sustainable development.
