Abstract
Al-Mg alloys are general used for automobile and aerospace applications due to their light weight and high strength. The objective of the present investigation is an attempt to get optimum magnesium recovery during the production process. This method involves a modified stir casting method where plungers are used to feed magnesium turnings into the aluminum melt for alloy preparation. A fuzzy logic technique is used as part of the investigation for determination of Mg recovery in the alloys produced using temperature, revolution per minute (RPM) and percentage of magnesium addition as the input parameters to the fuzzy model. The results of the fuzzy model were compared with the experimental results and were found to be in good agreement. During magnesium addition process at the specific furnace maintenance temperature (FMT) and RPM, the percentage of magnesium recovery in the alloy is higher and some losses were seen due to evaporation.
