Optimization of process parameters for LPBF forming TC11/SiC single track

Abstract

Titanium matrix composite parts with excellent mechanical properties can be obtained by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) by introducing nano SiC ceramic particles into titanium and titanium alloys. In order to cope with the instability of the forming quality of the parts caused by the addition of SiC particles, this paper proposes to explore the quality of single-track melt under different process parameters, to optimize the parameters more accurately to achieve better forming quality. In this paper, the influence of process parameters on the morphology and geometric size of the molten pool is studied, and the optimal molten track morphology parameters are selected for printing experiments. The results show that when the thickness of the powder layer = 30um is the optimal process parameter with the laser power 170 W, the scanning speed 1100 mm/s and the line energy density 0.155 J/mm. At this time, the molten track of TC11/SiC formed by LPBF process is continuous and stable, with good surface morphology.
