Abstract
The symmetry is a remarkable aesthetic characteristics in the traditional Chinese architecture. Through analyzing the different manifestations of symmetry in the settlement planning, in the construction of the architectural settlements, in the arrangement of the building complexes and in the structures of single building and its decorations, the paper explores it as an aesthetic technique and a cultural carrier bearing the traditional Confucianism, Daoism, peoples ideals and wishes, and proposes to reconsider its cultural connotation and significance in the modern architectural design as well as the social life, achieving the balance and harmony outside and inside of ourselves.
