Abstract

Several researchers have attempted to explain the synergies between cement and polymer in PCC by modeling the formation of the complex microstructure of polymer-cement mortar and concrete. The starting three-step model was proposed by Y. Ohama already in 1987, but numerous refinements and modifications to this model have been proposed since then. The paper deals with the physical mechanisms, described by the models, and shows the improvements added in the successive models, leading to a better understanding of the synergies realized by the interaction and collaboration of polymers and hydraulic cement.
