Development of the Monitoring and Early Warning System for Agricultural Market Information Based on Android Smart Phone

Abstract

Monitoring agricultural market information is the foundation of modern agricultural economy and management. In order to improve the efficiency and accuracy in monitoring and early warning agricultural market information, it is necessary to develop a monitoring and early warning system based on Android smart phone, which standardized collects and analyzes comprehensive agricultural market information. The system consists of two components, a Data Acquisition Platform (DAP) and a Center Control Platform (CCP). Combined with agricultural standards, the DAP are located at agricultural market places, and each DAP is equipped with Android smart phone and DAP system, which includes ten kinds of agricultural market information through manual inputting DAP and then sends the collected agricultural market information to CCP via 3G, GPRS or SMS communication link. The function of the CCP is to receive, store, display, and analyze the database on line. It also provides functions like queries, early warning, and geographic information display. The system has been tested on field for nearly half a year (September 2012 to February 2013) in five provinces in China, this experimental results demonstrate that comprehensive agricultural market information can be achieved by our system, which can analysis price changes of agricultural products spatially and temporally in circulation domain through monitoring agricultural prices in farm field market, wholesale market, supermarket, and retail market. Based on the long-term monitoring database acquired by our system, the relationship among prices of different agricultural commodities can be easily analyzed. With the help of this system, researchers can judge the correlation of the occurrence of fluctuations in agricultural prices and local market conditions. Since the long-term database provides us with the details of the agricultural prices, the system allows us to control price fluctuations timely and maintain the stability of agricultural markets.
